There are many ways to have your articles rank on the first page of the Google search results. But the most important factor is the time you will database keywords devote to your keyword research prior to write your articles. If your keyword research is wrong, your article may never show up on the first page of Google ever.

Since the entire Google index contains hundreds of billions of web pages, choosing the right search term to rank for is primordial to get some visibility. Research has shown that the Internet users are looking at the first three organic listings and are rarely going any further down the page. So to get listed within the first three spots is the main goal.

Google records everything the Internet users are typing into the search bar. Then they store all these keywords into their database, and they are making this information available to the public. This is gold for internet marketers and websites publishers to find out very important statistics and to conduct market research. Without this tool, it would be very difficult, merely impossible to know what people are looking for.

Keyword research starts at the Google keyword tool. Refer to the resource box at the end of this article to find the web address. Look for long tail keywords and insert them into the title of the article you want to write. Using short keyword that are showing high monthly search volume is the biggest mistake that a lot of beginners do.

The reason for this is there is too much competition for short keywords and your article will never be able to outrank the webpages that are already showing on the first page of Google for that specific search therm. Besides short keywords are to broad, and internet users are usually looking for something specific. As an example, let’s use the keyword “car insurance.” If you type this in the Google search bar, Google will return several millions results from all the web pages it has in it’s index that are relevant to the keyword car insurance.

But if you go with a keyword such as ” car insurance quotes for Tampa Florida”, you will see a lot less results because the keyword is a lot more specific. I may have a less important search volume but the searchers are more likely to convert their searches into sales.

The primary rule of thumb is to find some long tail keywords that have less than 5000 searches per month into the Google keyword tool. Then you take this keyword and you type it in the Google search bar “in quotes” to see how many optimised results you are competing with. If you get a result of less than 10 000, you are good to go.
